Interview: Giada Maestra

(December 2020)
This week, we interviewed Italian illustrator Giada Maestra. Her work chimes with our approach to artwork in the mag since there's rarely more than two or three colours used in a piece, but it's not a minimalist project – her captions, and the way she depicts faces, are very funny.
Take a peek at her other work here.

Lately I’ve been working on a project named Periods: a series of illustrations representing women dealing with their menstruation.

You can see some of them here. I consider this work as a long-term diary through which I document the most common moments we experience as women hoping to make them smile as they relate to each image.

I’m also currently working on a few interesting and exciting collaborations with charities, you’ll see some soon :)

Hello everyone! My name is Giada and I’m an Italian illustrator and artist based in London! I graduated in Fashion Design and Multimedia Arts at IUAV University of Venice and I’m now doing an MA in Illustration at University of the Arts London.

My illustrations mainly involve scenes of everyday life. Body positivity and sexual health are some of the topics I care the most when representing women. I draw digitally with Procreate for iPad Pro.

If you could have a magical power, what would it be?
Invisibility, for sure! In that way, I could observe people closer, enter in places where I don’t have access, stay in the library as much as I want!
