Interview: Vincent Kilbride

(October 2020)
For the first of our illustrator interviews, we spoke to Vincent Kilbride. We love the colour, the simplicity and most of all, the humour in his work. I especially liked the first image in this newsletter (called 'Back to work') because it expresses quite adequately how I feel after my working week, every week. If you'd like to check out Vincent's stuff,
have a look at his website.

Recently I've been enjoying creating images based around the Inktober prompts. It's been a fun challenge and a nice distraction from 2020 – to produce something every day around a bunch of different topics. to loosen up and not be too precious about them!

If I could have a magical power, it would be telekinesis. My hands are falling apart from all the sanitiser I've been covering them in, so being able to move stuff with my mind instead would be so useful – or should that be handy?

I'm an illustrator based in London. I create images that use playful characters, vibrant colours and simple compositions to communicate ideas or tell a story with a bit of wit and a sense of humour.

I like to take inspiration from everyday life, and try to find the fun in the normal or mundane stuff. In terms of my process, it's pretty straightforward: I doodle a lot, and all my pieces start out as a pencil sketch, which I then take into Photoshop to draw digitally, refine and add colour to.
